The organisations in attendance included those who work with- vulnerable groups, people living on the street, early childhood development centres and persons with substance abuse disorders as well as organisations from the arts, culture and heritage sector.

Representatives from 17 organisations received training not only in sustainability but also NPO Act registration, compliance and good governance, amongst others.

‘These organisations provide the foundation for society in a range of activities such as wellness, health and education. They are able to reach out to residents who may not be able to readily access services. By providing the organisations with the tools to be sustainable and flourish, we are in turn helping them be a catalyst for community development and empowerment,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.

‘It is important for non-profit organisations to be successful and survive. Their key resource is people and by empowering them with the right skills and knowledge, we ensure their future,’ added Councillor Van der Ross.

The training was held in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Social Development.
